Despite spending more money per capita on maternal health than any country in the world, the United States ranks a shocking 55th in maternal deaths. It is the only industrialized nation with a consistently rising maternal mortality rate.
This burden is not shared equally. Black and Indigenous mothers in the U.S. are 2-3 times more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth-related causes.
